Rocky Mount State Historic Site

This is a sample of some of the projects I undertook while working for the Rocky Mount Historical Association, the contracted organization responsible for the Rocky Mount State Historic Site.

Collections

While I was originally hired as a site interpreter, I also worked in the museum's collection as the Assistant Collections Manager. In this role I was responsible for new accessions (including a portion of the 1000+ item Strine Medical Collection), cataloging deaccessioned and unidentified artifacts, and monitoring the condition of the collection.

Archaeology Exhibit

While cataloging deaccessioned items, I worked with a local archaeologist, S. D. Dean, to identify the Native American Lithics in our collection. While working on this, we discovered some inconsistencies in the museums archaeology exhibit. With Dean's help, we were able to reconcile these issues as well as add a small interpretive timeline that utilized spear and arrow points from the collection.
